Single-use plastic products reporting

Companies that market single-use plastic products must register with the authorities and at the same time choose a PRO (Producer Responsibility Organisation) if wanted. If you want VANA to handle your producer responsibility for single-use plastic products, you can register ypour company and categories directly in the Member Portal. You can register directly with DPA and choose VANA as your PRO there, and we will automatically be notified.

What must be reported?

Companies marketing single-use plastic products must report the marketed quantities quarterly for each of the following product categories:

  • Food containers - in kg
  • Packets and wrappers made from flexible material - in kg
  • Beverage containers - in kg
  • Cups for beverages - in kg
  • Lightweight plastic carrier bags - in kg
  • Wet wipes - in units
  • Balloons - in units
  • Filters for tobacco products - in units

The reportable quantity of single-use plastic products subject to fees constitutes the sum of the number of single-use plastic products from each product category marketed within a quarter.

Quarterly reporting

Reports must be made every quarter, first time 1 – 10 April 2025.

  • April 1–10 (quantities marketed in Q1)
  • July 1–10 (quantities marketed in Q2)
  • October 1–10 (quantities marketed in Q3)
  • January 1–10 (quantities marketed in Q4 of the previous year).

Changes

Any changes to reports must be submitted collectively for a fee period. Changes can only be made for the current and the most recently completed fee period.

The changes may result from single-use plastic products being exported or due to errors in previous reports.

Export

If single-use plastic products are transferred to be marketed outside Denmark by another company, other than the company that reported them, it is a regulatory requirement that the company exporting the products completes a declaration, which is submitted to Dansk Producentansvar (DPA) by the reporting company.

The declaration regarding the transfer of new and unused single-use plastic products for marketing outside Denmark must include information about the company's:

  • VAT number
  • name
  • address
  • the quantity in units or kilograms of the exported or marketed single-use plastic products.

The declaration must be retained as part of the accounting documentation. VANA is awaiting guidance from DPA on the specific process and will provide updates continuously.

VANA calls for harmonisation and guidance on single-use plastic products

Many companies will not only be covered by the producer responsibility on packaging, but also by the producer responsibility on certain single-use plastic products.

VANA's CEO, Marianne Roed Jakobsen, emphasises in a consultation response to the Ministry of the Environment that VANA supports the ambitions of the producer responsibility and looks forward to lifting it on behalf of our members - also for single-use plastic products. However, there is a need for comprehensive and uniform guidance from the authorities, because the legislation contains several different product categories, producer definitions, fee types and deadlines, which obstructs a smooth implementation which  achieves the desired environmental effects.
