4 important points from VANA for the consultation on the statutory order on packaging

The Ministry of the Environment and Gender Equality sent the statutory order on packaging out for consultation again last week. VANA has sent a consultation response with 4 main points today, where the consultation deadline was at 12 PM.
The key points in VANA's response to the consultation
- Better involvement in the consultation process and more guidance – VANA urges that relevant parties be involved earlier for a more transparent process, and that the authorities prioritize more guidance and clarification to avoid unnecessary administrative burdens.
- Uncertainty about security – the rules are unclear, especially regarding the access of producer responsibility organisations to the release of security.
- Clarifications – VANA supports the linguistic and technical clarifications.
- Changes regarding compensation for commercial waste – VANA calls for an explanation as to why the reference to Annex 7 (fractions) has been removed, as this may lead to increased costs. We also urge that the change not be implemented.
VANA has also commented on the rules regarding security, even though there are no proposed changes to these specific paragraphs.
