The packaging regulation has now moved closer
On Wednesday 24 April 2024 the European Parliament adopted new measures to make packaging more sustainable and to reduce the amount of packaging waste in the EU.
The European Parliament has adopted new rules on packaging - the so-called packaging regulation. The aim is to make packaging more sustainable, reduce the amount of packaging waste and ensure harmonised rules for businesses across the EU.
The regulation sets requirements for the entire life cycle of the packaging, including:
- minimisation of packaging
- increased recycling
- recycling
- restrictions on certain types of packaging.,
The Danish rules on the producer responsibility for packaging are already inspired by the upcoming regulation, which applies, among other things, to the definition of who has the producer responsibility. Of course, we hope for even more harmonisation when the next part of the framework for the producer responsibility in Denmark is submitted for consultation, which probably will take place in June.
