Circular design

The purpose of introducing the producer responsibility for packaging is, among other things, to create financial incentives to design packaging which is less harmful to the environment and the climate. The overall principles are therefore about keeping resources in circulation by designing packaging that can be part of so-called circular loops.

The concepts of design and 'circular economy' generally take up a lot of space within the green transition. Producer responsibility on packaging is no exception – e.g., there is talk of creating a circular economy for packaging. But what does that mean and how does it relate to packaging design? You can learn more about this on this page.

General principles for eco-friendly packaging

  • The packaging is material-minimised.
  • The packaging is made of only one material (if possible).
  • The packaging is easy to sort at source – possibly separate
  • The packaging can be effectively included in the recycling process.
  • The packaging retains high value as a secondary raw material.
