FAQ - VANA and producer responsibility organisation (PRO)
A producer responsibility organisation (PRO) is a private organisation, such as VANA, that offers to perform the administrative and practical tasks associated with producer responsibility for packaging on behalf of the companies covered by producer responsibility through memberships.
It is still the producer responsible company that is accountable for collecting data about its own packaging and for ensuring that this is registered with the producer responsibility organisation.

A producer responsibility organisation (PRO) is the most obvious way to manage one's producer responsibility. The producer responsibility organisation takes care of the obligations for collection, sorting, waste treatment, statutory reporting to the authorities, and payment to municipalities, private waste collectors, etc. Each individual producer still has the responsibility to report the correct data and pay to the producer responsibility organisations as well as conduct self-control.
Companies that are covered by producer responsibility for one-way packaging must be registered with a producer responsibility organisation (PRO) no later than when registering in the producer register (DPA). Read more in the statutory order on packaging here.
For reusable packaging and single-use plastic products, it is voluntary whether the company is registered with a producer responsibility organisation (PRO).
If a producer responsibility organisation (PRO) ceases, the producer must register with a new producer responsibility organisation (PRO) within 14 days.
