A new packaging and packaging waste regulation (regulation) has been finally adopted in the EU. It will come into effect from August 12, 2026. It repeals the previous packaging directive – read the clarifications in the regulation here:

Relevant legislation

The extended producer responsibility on packaging is still part of the new regulation. The Danish statutory order on packaging has closely followed the creation of the new regulation and has incorporated as much as possible from the new regulation. Read more about the regulation here:

Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation

A significant reason for the packaging directive being transformed into a new packaging and packaging waste regulation is to achieve greater harmonization in the area within the EU.

Yes, it is the same. PPWR stands for 'Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation' which in Danish is fully named: 'EU’s forordning om emballage og emballageaffald'.
